I often imagine my clients’ homes as movie sets. There’s a scene to be set. A story to be told.

Since I was a young girl, I was always content to be alone with my imagination. At home I would build elaborate scenes, usually Barbie houses out of cardboard boxes. That imagination carried me through my studies at Ohio University where I majored in Interior Design and onto NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where I earned an MFA for Set Design for Theatre and Production Design for Film and Television.

After graduating from NYU, I worked in New York City in the world of film production and did display work for trade shows like the North American International Toy Fair. I enjoyed creating scenery for a variety of interesting projects, but it was incredibly sad to see my work disassembled once the project had run its course. The human connection and purpose of what I was doing was missing — I wanted to create for real people instead of fictional characters. This brought me back to where it began for me, interior design. I left New York for Cleveland to work at a residential interior design firm, where for the next decade and a half, I honed my design skills and built valued relationships with my clients and local trades.

To me interior design is like creating a film set, one that has lasting value. In a sense you’re like the characters in your own real life movie. You should be able to be fully present and relaxed in your favorite scene — your home.

I started my namesake business, Angela Potts Interior Design, to use my nearly two decades of experience in the interior design industry to create a new chapter in the story of your home.
